Usage Indications
XYLAZINE 10%; Formula; : EACH ML CONTAINS:; Xylazine (base) 100 mg; Excipients q.s. to 1 ml; Indications; XYLAZINE 10% is indicated in the following cases: Diagnostic procedures: ophthalmic or oral examination, abdominal or rectal palpation, vaginal examination, placement of a urinary or nasogastric tube, X-rays. Clinical procedures: de-worming, shoeing, etc. Minor surgeries requiring only sedation and mild analgesia, wounds, suturing in conjunction with local anesthesia, etc. Management of uncooperative animals. Pre-anesthetic; Description; : A sedative, muscle relaxant, and analgesic for horses; Dosage; Sedation: IV: 0.5 mL/50 kg body weight (1 to 1.1 mg/kg). IM: 1 mL/50 kg body weight (2 to 2.2 mg/kg). After administration of XYLAZINA 10%, the horse should be kept in a quiet environment until the maximum sedative effect is achieved. Administration of the indicated dose produces sedation for a period of 1 to 2 hours with analgesia during the first 15 to 30 minutes. Adjuvant to local anesthesia: It is used at the same doses indicated for sedation in conjunction with local anesthesia. Preanesthetic: It is used at the same doses as for sedation. Due to the additive central nervous system depressant effect, only ½ to 1/3 of the barbiturate dose should be administered to achieve a level of surgical anesthesia. Dosage interval: If necessary, the dose may be repeated in full or in part at the veterinarian’s discretion. Recommended repeat dose: IV: 0.25 ml/50 kg (0.5 mg/kg).
