Salix Diuretic and Saluretic. Description : Diuretic, saluretic. Diuretics are substances that increase the volume of urine excreted over a given period of time. Increased salt excretion (saluresis) is an essential condition upon which the preparation’s excellent efficacy is based. In certain types of nephritis, it is beneficial to increase the flow of fluid through the renal tissue to facilitate the excretion of metabolites, thereby preventing the accumulation of these substances in toxic concentrations in the blood and tissues. Pharmacology: The therapeutic efficacy of Salix® stems from the activity of the intact, unaltered molecule as it passes through the nephron, inhibiting sodium reabsorption not only in the proximal and distal tubules but also in the ascending limb of the loop of Henle. In the distal tubule, the drug exerts a diuretic effect in both acidosis and alkalosis. The rapid onset of action results from the drug’s rapid absorption. Salix® has no inhibitory effects on carbonic anhydrase or aldosterone activity. The main characteristics of Salix® are: high efficacy, low or no toxicity, and broad therapeutic application. Rapid onset of diuresis following administration, which can be expected within the first hour after administration. Diuresis can be managed and adjusted at the veterinarian’s discretion, depending on the dose administered. The sodium-potassium ratio is very favorable. A proper dose-response relationship and a dosage range—from minimum to maximum—that can be increased tenfold. It is administered by injection, where it is rapidly absorbed; Intravenous administration is recommended for nearly immediate diuresis. Salix® differs from other known diuretics in the following ways: Lack of toxicity and good tolerance. Minimal effect on potassium excretion. No effect on carbohydrate metabolism. Onset and duration of the diuretic effect: During the first hour after administration, the greatest amount of water, sodium, and chloride is excreted; Diuresis then decreases until 4 hours have elapsed, after which it returns to normal. In all species: Pulmonary edema (pulmonary congestion, ascites): Intravenous injection provides almost immediate relief of symptoms of cardiac-related edema. Pulmonary edema due to acute intoxication also responds to treatment with Salix®, but in some cases it is advisable to double or triple the usual dose at the start of treatment. Renal edema: This condition responds well to treatment with Salix®, which exerts a diuretic effect even with severely impaired glomerular filtration, demonstrating marked efficacy in cases of chronic glomerulonephritis. Gestational edema: When circumstances necessitate effective diuresis. Salix® acts without any adverse effects and has no contraindications in pregnant animals. Its use is especially recommended during the last 3 months of pregnancy to eliminate excess fluids accumulated in the body. Cardiac edema: Whenever treatment is necessary, Salix® is effective and has no contraindications. The combined use of Salix® with cardiac glycosides is recommended. Hepatic edema: Salix® has no effect on the liver, which is why its use is recommended; It has been successfully used even in cases of refractory ascites. Udder edema: the combined use of Salix® and Dexafort® rapidly eliminates symptoms. Other applications: Due to its diuretic action, Salix® is effective in cases of poisoning from various sources (food poisoning, poisoning from stimulant drugs, intestinal or myogenic autointoxication, hemolytic diseases, etc.). An intravenous injection for the first administration, followed by intramuscular injections every other day until the desired effect is achieved, yields conclusive results. Salix® can be expected to produce beneficial effects even in cases where other saluretics have proven ineffective. Dosage for Large Animals: Administer intramuscularly (IM) and/or intravenously (IV); The individual dose is 5 to 10 ml once or twice daily at 6- to 8-hour intervals, until the desired results are achieved.
