DESCRIPTION Inactivated vaccine for the prevention of respiratory disease caused by herpesvirus and equine abortion. COMPOSITION Equine rhinopneumonitis EHV 1p and EHV 1b viruses; Oil-based adjuvant: ACTION Immunization against equine rhinopneumonitis and equine abortion. INDICATIONS For the vaccination of healthy horses to help prevent respiratory diseases caused by the equine rhinopneumonitis viruses EHV-1p and EHV-1b, as well as for use in pregnant mares to help prevent abortion due to infections caused by the EHV-1 virus. CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS Shake the contents before use. Store at 2–7°C. As with all medications, keep out of the reach of children. SIDE EFFECTS As with any injectable product, anaphylactic-type reactions may occur. In this case, administer epinephrine. DOSAGE The dose is 2 mL. Administer by deep intramuscular injection. In pregnant mares, administer a 2-mL intramuscular dose during the fifth, seventh, and ninth months of pregnancy. Revaccination should occur during the fifth, seventh, and ninth months of each subsequent pregnancy. Mares that have never been bred and spayed mares living with vaccinated pregnant mares should follow the same schedule as the pregnant mares with whom they are in contact. Mares more than five months pregnant should be vaccinated upon arrival at the facility and then at two-month intervals until foaling. Pregnant mares in contact with mares that have aborted fetuses contaminated with Equine Herpesvirus 1 should be vaccinated. Such vaccination may provide immunity to those mares in the group that are not incubating an abortive infection at the time of vaccination. Males: Administer a 2-ml intramuscular dose followed by a second 2-ml dose three to four weeks later. Revaccinate with a single 2-ml dose six months after the second primary dose and then annually.
