Gentamicin 8% DESCRIPTION Injectable antibiotic formulation based on gentamicin sulfate. COMPOSITION Gentamicin sulfate: 8 g. Excipients q.s.: 100 ml. ACTION Antibiotic. INDICATIONS Infectious conditions caused by susceptible microorganisms. Septicemia. Infectious diarrhea. Metritis. Pneumonia. Infectious bronchitis. Urinary tract infections. Infected wounds. CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS Do not combine with other aminoglycoside antibiotics. Do not mix in the same vial or syringe with penicillins, carbenicillin, cephalosporins, amphotericin B, or heparin. During prolonged treatment, it is advisable to monitor kidney function. SIDE EFFECTS When administered in high doses or for prolonged periods, this antibiotic may cause nephrotoxicity and affect the eighth cranial nerve. DOSAGE The route of administration is intravenous; Intramuscular administration may be used if necessary. The dosage is 6.6 mg/kg every 24 hours, as a single dose. For foals less than one week old or premature foals, reduce the dose by half.
