ACTION Broad-spectrum internal antiparasitic agent against flatworms and roundworms. INDICATIONS Indicated in horses for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes, cestodes, and larval stages of dipterans that cause myiasis. Helps control lice. Nematodes: Large strongyles: adult stages of S. equinus, S. vulgaris, S. edentatus, and Triodontophorus spp. Small strongyles: adult forms of Cyathostomon spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicostephanus spp., Gyalocephalus sp., Oxyuris equi; Adult forms of Trichostrongylus axei; Adult and mammary stages of Strongyloides westeri. Microfilariae of Onchocerca sp., Habronema spp., and Drasschia spp. Pulmonary nematodes: Adult and immature forms of Dictyocaulus arnifieldi. Cestodes: Anoplocephala perfoliata, Anoplocephala magna, Paranoplocephala mamillana. Lice: Haematopinus asini. Myiasis: Cavitary: Gasterophilus spp. Traumatic cutaneous: Collitroga macellaria and Hominivorax. Suggested deworming plan: Strategic deworming of stabled horses is recommended every 60–90 days, although a biannual strategic deworming regimen can be implemented in March and September. On breeding farms, strategic deworming of horses is recommended at least twice a year, during the months of March and September. CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS Equiverm may be administered to pregnant mares at any stage of gestation, to foals of all ages, and to breeding stallions, as it does not affect libido or spermatogenesis in any way. Do not administer the product to horses with preexisting liver and/or kidney damage. Do not administer to animals in poor condition or under severe stress. Do not smoke or eat while handling the product. Do not ingest. Verify that the product’s tamper-evident seal and storage conditions prior to use are adequate, and that the product has not expired as indicated by the expiration date on the label. Ensure that the product is administered exclusively via the route specified herein. Do not exceed the doses recommended on the label. The recommended doses and warnings in all cases are subject to the judgment of the attending veterinarian. The proper temperature for storing the product is between 4 and 25°C, away from direct sunlight, in a dry and hygienic place. Under no circumstances should the product be opened, transferred to another container, or exposed to the environment, as these actions jeopardize its proper preservation and the integrity of the packaging. SIDE EFFECTS Swelling and itching may occur along the ventral midline approximately 24 hours after administration of the product, due to a hypersensitivity reaction caused by the massive death of Onchocerca sp. microfilariae. This situation can be prevented by administering glucocorticoids immediately before treatment and for one or two days afterward. If left untreated, the edema is generally self-limiting and resolves on its own within seven to ten days after treatment. In many cases, the dermatitis improves within 14 to 21 days after treatment. DOSAGE The suggested guideline dose is 1 gram of product per 100 kg of body weight; The specific dose and dosing interval are at the discretion of the treating veterinarian. Equiverm is supplied in ready-to-use syringes. To administer the medication, first adjust the ring on the graduated scale according to the weight of the animal to be treated. Once the dose has been selected, remove the cap from the syringe while holding it in an upright position to prevent spillage; After ensuring the horse’s mouth is free of food debris, insert the syringe into the interdental space at the base of the tongue and, while simultaneously pressing the plunger, dispense the medication up to the top of the ring’s setting. Immediately lift the horse’s head to ensure complete swallowing of the medication. If a syringe is used more than once, it must be closed with its original cap and stored under the recommended conditions to ensure the product’s efficacy
