Description Dexamethasone phosphate is a synthetic corticosteroid indicated for use in cases where a rapid glucocorticoid, anti-inflammatory, and/or antiallergic effect is desired. Composition Component Amount Dexamethasone 21 sodium phosphate 200 mg. Double-distilled water q.s. to 100 ml. Indications Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, tendinitis, myositis, hydrarthrosis, neuritis, polyneuritis, paresis due to nerve compression, and rheumatic disorders, among others. Primary and secondary acetonemia. Inflammation of the respiratory tract, localized and generalized allergies, and anaphylaxis of various etiologies; Traumatic and surgical shock; Stress. Induction of labor. Udder edema (associated with diuretics) and edema in general. For cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, dogs, and cats. Route of administration Slow intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intra-articular (at the veterinarian’s discretion). Animal Suggested Doses Cattle 5 to 20 mg. (2.5 to 10 ml.) Horses 2 to 5 mg. (1 to 2.5 mL) Dogs 0.25 to 1 mg. (0.15 to 0.5 mL) Cats 0.125 to 0.5 mg. (0.06 to 0.25 mL) Precautions and Contraindications Do not use, except in therapeutic emergencies, in animals with chronic nephritis and hypercortisolism (Cushing’s syndrome). The presence of conditions such as congestive heart failure, diabetes, osteoporosis, or gastric or intestinal ulcers is a relative contraindication. Do not use in viral infections during the viremic phase. In infectious diseases, use only in conjunction with specific antibiotics. Restrictions and Contraindications Do not use in pregnant animals. Form 100-ml multidose bottle
