Specimen Collection Swab—Sterilized with Ethylene Oxide Description : For uterine cultures. Pass through the cervix and expel the gelatin capsule by applying moderate pressure to the end of the inner tube. Bring the swab into contact with the uterine mucosa; Retract the inner tube so that the swab is contained within the outer tube, and remove it from the uterus. The swab may be left inside the tube before proceeding with the culture, or the stick holding the swab may be broken off into the culture medium. It can also be used for pharyngeal cultures, nasal cultures, gallbladder cultures, or cultures from any deep cavity where it is necessary to protect the swab to prevent contamination before it reaches the tissue being tested.
