Usage Indications

ALGEN LD Potent somatic and visceral analgesic. Sterile, ready-to-use injectable solution. Tramadol 60 mg/mL Algen LD 50 mL Vial , Sterile Solution for Injection. DESCRIPTION Tramadol is a synthetic derivative of codeine and a µ-agonist used as an analgesic for a variety of acute and chronic pain syndromes. BIOACTIVITY Algen LD has a dual mechanism of action: on the one hand, it binds to mu-opioid receptors, and on the other hand, it inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, thereby increasing the activity of these neurotransmitters. This dual mode of action confers a powerful synergistic effect, leading to analgesia comparable to that of meperidine or codeine. Its duration of action is 6 to 8 hours. INDICATIONS FOR USE : ALGEN LD is indicated for the management of moderate to severe somatic and/or visceral pain of acute or chronic origin (fractures, dislocations, contusions, osteoarthritis, neuropathies, etc.). Algen LD may be administered during anesthetic premedication to enhance intraoperative analgesia and ensure a comfortable recovery for the patient. Algen LD, when used in combination with major tranquilizers, enhances the sedative effect and allows for a reduced dose. Algen LD is used in the treatment of postoperative pain in both outpatients and hospitalized patients, serving as an effective alternative in most abdominal, mastectomy, orthopedic, and spinal surgeries. Combining Algen LD with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) enhances its efficacy, producing multimodal pain relief. DOSAGE Dogs and Cats : 1–2 mg/kg; SC, IM, slow IV, epidural . Sport horses: 1 mg/kg; Slow IV infusion, epidural . Dosage interval: administer every 6 to 8 hours. INTERACTIONS : MAO inhibitors (selegiline) and cytochrome P450 inhibitors (cimetidine, ketoconazole, erythromycin) may increase the toxicity of tramadol by raising its plasma concentration. Co-administration with agonists/antagonists (e.g., buprenorphine, nalbuphine) may reduce the analgesic effect. When combined with β2-agonists, such as xylazine or medetomidine, respiratory depression may occur. In such cases, it is recommended to use the IM route, reduce the final dose of the β2-agonists, and consider the need to administer atropine to the patient
